Birth Work Centered in Blackness

The Iowa Black Doula Collective was created to open access to doula support and provide quality childbirth education centering Black bodies, families, and communities throughout Iowa. We promote holistic and evidence-based care to empower their reproductive health, fertility, birth, and postpartum journeys.

BIRTH WORK IS SOUL WORK.

The Iowa Black Doula Collective was founded by a group of women who are among the first certified doulas of color in the state.

Amidst the increasingly disproportionate rates of Black women experiencing fertility, pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum complications, three Black women came together to address the critical needs of Black birthing people in the area of reproductive health. Through education, consultation, and one-on-one servicing, the doulas of the IBDC have reached over 40 women and families providing direct and indirect services and educational resources on a topic in which the Black experience has been muted for so many years.

With the number of birthing people seeking out doula services increasing each day, it is our goal to provide holistic support for those who need us most; and we need your help.

We’ll be with you every step of the way.
