WHO WE ARE

COMPREHENSIVE, JUDGEMENT FREE PREGNANCY DOULAS

“We cover and provide that emotional and physical support with evidence-based education throughout the entire pregnancy. That's from conception, labor, birth, and then the immediate postpartum period. That's what a doula does.”

With a mission to create access to doula support and provide education to support diverse families within Iowa through promoting holistic and evidence-based care, the Iowa Black Doula Collective (IBDC) was founded being among the first certified doulas of color in the state. Amidst the increasingly disproportionate rates of Black women experiencing fertility, pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum complications, three Black women came together to address the critical needs of Black birthing people in the area of reproductive health. Through education, consultation, and one-on-one servicing, the doulas of the IBDC have reached over 110 women and families providing direct and indirect services and educational resources on a topic in which the Black experience has been muted for so many years.

With the number of birthing people seeking out doula services increasing each day, it is our goal to provide holistic support for those who need us most; and we need your help.
